The last few months of 2024 have been both eventful and successful for our international projects. Therefore, we are taking a moment to reflect on the remarkable progress made: For example, we welcomed two Moroccan guest lecturers to THI as part of the AMBER project and held the first study programme development workshop in the RE.Act project.

In this newsletter, we will provide those and more updates, highlighting key outcomes, challenges overcome, and lessons learnt. Apart from that, we will share insights from our colleagues at InES who have recently participated in international conferences collaborating with global experts in their respective field.

Activities with partners in Africa

AMBER: Project Meeting and Morrocan Guest Lecturers at THI

July marked a significant milestone for the AMBER project, with a gathering of all university partners in Ingolstadt. This event coincided with lecturer visits from Prof El Asli and Prof Rachidi.

FACE-NDC: Project Start

InES recently started its new capacity building mission on behalf of FAO. The aim is to strenghten research and teaching in the field of renewable energies at Zambian universities.

Activities with partners in Central Asia

RE.Act: Study Programme Development Workshop

Within the framework of the RE.Act project, the first study programme development workshop took place in Tashkent from 24 to 26 July 2024. The workshop was followed by a joint visit to the TIIAME training field for the cultivation of cereals and vegetables.

SWITCH: International Conference on Solar Technologies and Mini-Grids

The InES team, represented by Dr Kedar Mehta and Ms Bertha Lwakatare, was thrilled to share insights from our SWITCH project "Stabilizing Weak Grids through Machine Learning in End-of-Line Communities in North Africa" at the conference.

Annual BRIAS Meeting

On May 2 and 3, the cooperation partners of BRIAS (Bavarian Research Institute of Africa Studies) gathered for their annual meeting at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences.

Our colleague Steffen Lauterbach had the opportunity to present the HY2BioMethane project at this years' European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) in Marseille/France. His research focuses on pressurized water scrubbers for biogas upgrading.
