Welcome to the 8th International InES Newsletter!


We are very excited to announce that we, Prof Tobias Schrag and Dr Kedar Mehta, will now be responsible for the InES International Newsletter. 


As the Scientific Director and the Head of International Energy Research at the Institute of new Energy Systems, we are deeply involved in the exciting developments in our international research every day. We want to share this enthusiasm with you and regularly update you on our projects, events, and research findings. A special thank you goes to Prof Wilfried Zörner, who established the newsletter and has now handed it over to us.


We have many exciting activities and milestones ahead in our projects that we are very much looking forward to. We are confident that this newsletter will give you an even better insight into our work.

RE.Act: Summer School in Tashkent

Two THI students took part in the RE.Act Summer School about the Water-Energy Nexus in Central Asia. During their time in Uzbekistan, they gained valuable insights by visiting local companies and university laboratories, and collaborating on mini-research projects with peers from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

MaZero: Stakeholder Event in Maseru

InES and its project partners promoted the MaZero e-mobility project in Lesotho by organising a successful information and exchange event with local and national stakeholders. The workshop attracted around 40 participants, providing valuable input that is essential for the nationwide rollout of e-mobility.

STORE: Workshop in Neusäß

InES and its STORE project partner, Steinbacher-Consult, held a successful workshop to discuss the development of an AI-based Smart Flexibility Energy Manager for supermarkets. The visit included a tour of Steinbacher-Consult’s charging infrastructure for e-vehicles.

BIOVARYA: Kenyan Delegation Visit in Ingolstadt

A delegation of Kenyan biogas entrepreneurs visited Ingolstadt as part of the BIOVARYA project. Their expert discussions with Bavarian companies yielded concrete ideas for establishing a lasting Bavarian-Kenyan biogas network.

AMBER: Internship at AWITE in Langenbach 

A Moroccan student completed a two-month internship at the Bavarian company AWITE GmbH, which specialises in bioenergy. The internship provided hands-on experience in renewable energy and environmental management.

Indo-German Bilateral Workshop

The Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) sponsored a three-day workshop on “Leveraging Radiative Cooling Potential of Building Surfaces”, hosted at IIT Roorkee. Jointly coordinated by Dr Ravita Lamba (IIT Roorkee, India) and Dr Kedar Mehta, the workshop brought together researchers and industry experts from both countries to discuss on innovative strategies for sustainable buildings.

International Networking

ICDTA in Algeria

Dr Kedar Mehta and Ms Bertha Lwakatare were invited to present key results from the SWITCH project at the International Conference on Digital Technologies and Applications. Highlights included their work on AI- and machine learning-based energy management for smart grids.

Mr Joshua Ngetuny presented his work at the 33rd European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Spain. His research, titled "Biogas in the Developing World: Feedstock Availability and Selection Using Analytic Hierarchy Process," introduces a new method to enhance the resilience and sustainability of small-scale biogas plants.

AgriVoltaics in Germany

Four InES researchers travelled to Freiburg in South Germany to present their research on Agri-PV and Agri-Solar Thermal Systems. The presentations underscored the latest advancements in integrating sustainable energy production with agricultural land use.
