The past few months have seen significant growth for InES, and we are excited to share the direction in which our international work is heading.


Most notably, we are expanding our operations to include Latin America! This new chapter begins with a collaborative project with partners in Colombia and Brazil. While we finalise the details of this collaboration, we invite you to explore our newly launched project websites. These hubs offer increased transparency and provide detailed information on our current milestones and global impact.

AMBER: Final Conference (11/2025)

The AMBER project concluded with a final conference, showcasing how agricultural residues can power decentralized, climate-friendly biogas production. Over the past four years, the initiative has fostered biogas teaching and research in Morocco by uniting academic research with industry.

FACE-NDC: Study Tour (01/2026)

As part of the FACE-NDC project, 20 academics from Zambia joined a study tour to THI to visit research laboratories and industry partners. The exchange combined hands-on training in biomass and solar energy with strategic workshops on modernizing university curricula.

RE.Act: Mid-Term Review (11/2025)

The RE.Act project reached its midpoint , evaluating two years of progress in strengthening the water-energy nexus across Central Asia during a project meeting at THI. The next phase focuses on launching joint research projects and expanding the academic network in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

MaZero: Electric Vehicle (12/2025)

The MaZero project reached a major milestone by deploying an electric vehicle in Maseru and starting construction on a charging station at the National University of Lesotho. This allows the project to demonstrate the real-world potential of e-mobility to local stakeholders.

STORE: Project Meeting (10/2025)

The STORE project held its first physical meeting in Nicosia to advance the AI-optimized integration of supermarkets and EV charging as grid assets. Partners from Germany, Tunisia, and Cyprus synchronized next steps for bidirectional charging and smarter, more resilient power grids.

BIOVARYA: Research Stay (09/2025)

The BIOVARYA project strengthened the German-Kenyan partnership in the field of biogas through a THI research visit to the Technical University of Kenya and local industry leaders. The team identified concrete opportunities for technology exchange and joint research on flexible biogas systems.

INTERSTORES: Project Meeting (11/2025)

The INTERSTORES project brought together international partners for a technical workshop at THI to align research findings and coordinate the next project phases. The meeting focused on accelerating the market potential of seasonal thermal energy storage through technical, economic, and ecological advancements.

UNAM International Meeting (01/2026)

Prof Daniel Navarro took part in an international meeting in London at the invitation of UNAM Germany (Center for Mexican Studies). He gave a presentation on the energy transition in Germany and participated in the development of new project ideas.

Central Asia Forum (02/2026)

Prof Tobias Schrag represented InES at the "German Higher Education and Science Forum on Central Asia" in Halle. This high-level exchange focused on strengthening regional networks, building on the momentum of the RE.Act project in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
